About Västerås konstmuseum |
Västerås Art Museum are centrally located in Västerås. The museum offers a wide range of exhibitions and events, guided tours and lectures, as well as research facilities, all in historical surroundings. The shop offers design products, books and accessories. Västerås Art Museum mainly exhibits Swedish art from its own collection. The temporary exhibitions focus on contemporary art by Swedish artist. The building dates from the beginning of the 20th century and was originally ASEA’s first factory based on scientific manufacturing principles.

History |
Västerås Konstförening VKF (Västerås Arts Association) was founded in 1919 and for over five decades the association acquired and collected art, mainly by Swedish artists. In 1972 the collection was donated to Västerås City and Västerås konstmuseum was founded. The museum opened September 23th 1972 with a public program in the former Court House by Fiskartorget. Among the first public exhibitions were shows with the artists Endre Nemes and Olle Bærtling. Västerås konstmuseum opened in a new location at Karlsgatan 2 in September 2010. |
